Field of interest: Cosmology, Galaxy Formation, Cosmic Microwave Background.
The research activity has been concentrated on the formation and evolution of the large scale structure of the universe. This field of research is still very hot, as it try to answer to fundamental questions like: what kind of universe we are living in? What are dark matter and dark energy which drives the expansion of the universe today? What was the universe at energies of the order of 10^15 GeV, and what kind of physics has determined the seeds out of which the large structure of the universe has formed? The research activity has produced more than 190 publications on refereed journals. Nicola Vittorio has coordinated several research grants. He has been part of the BOOMERANG collaboration, which has provided estimates of the cosmological parameters, and he has been Co-I of the LFI experiment on board of the ESA/Planck satellite (which has produced state of the art results on cosmological and astrophysical topics).
